Apparently this never published the first time I thought I had posted it. Whoops! Hopefully this isn’t a repeat!
I haven’t done one of these in a while, so I figure why not. There are some trailers I think I’ve posted before, so I didn’t post them again, and a few from 2013 that I don’t think there are trailers for so I just listed them at the end. As always, these are just the movies that I’m personally interested in (or on the fence about) seeing, so this entry won’t have all the trailers of every upcoming movie out there. Anyway, let’s get started.
2012 Releases
Releasing July 25th:
Title: Ruby Sparks
Summary: A young novelist achieves success early in his career but begins to face struggles. In a bid to overcome writer’s block, he is told to write the woman he thinks will love him. He winds up willing her into existence.
When I was younger I definitely used to believe something like this could happen, like a world or a character from a book coming to life. This looks like it’s going to be a fun movie, and I look forward to seeing it!
Releasing August 15th:
Title: The Odd Life of Timothy Green
Summary: A childless couple bury a box in their backyard, containing all of their wishes for an infant. Soon, a child is born, though Timothy Green is not all that he appears.
This also seems like it’ll be a very cute movie, so I’m looking forward to this as well. The trailer had a very ’90sish Disney kid’s movie feel to it, and hopefully that’s the case.
Releasing August 31st:
Title: For a Good Time, Call…
Summary: Lauren and Katie, college frenemies with a mutual good friend, move in together at age 28 in order to afford an amazing Gramercy Park apartment. The unlikely pair start a phone sex line and become best friends while learning about this hilarious world of vibrators, fake orgasms and nighttime callers. When the hot line is hung up and reality comes calling, the most meaningful relationship of their lives is put to the test.
I will probably wait for this one to come out on DVD, but it looks hilarious.
Releasing September 7th:
Title: The Words
Summary: A writer, at the peak of his literary success, discovers the price he must pay for stealing another man’s work.
As an avid reader and writer, I enjoy movies about writing. When I saw the trailer for this particular movie, I was definitely intrigued. Probably not something that’s going to be on top of a lot of people’s lists, but I’m definitely going to give this one a shot.
Releasing September 28th:
Title: Hotel Transylvania
Summary: Simon Van Helsing is the youngest in a long line of monster hunters. The last thing Van Helsing wants to do is fall in love with Dracula’s daughter, Mavis. Upon discovering that they are natural enemies, the doomed couple attempts to bring peace between monsters and humans. In the end, each family will have some new blood.
A bit on the fence about seeing this, but it looks like it could be funny. We’ll see what happens when September rolls around.
Title: Looper
Summary: Set in a present-day world, a group of hitmen are sent their victims from the future.
This is definitely on the list and I can’t wait to see this and Premium Rush, two films starring JGL? Win, I say, not to mention this one also stars Emily Blunt, whom I totally adore.
Releasing November 2nd:
Title: Wreck-It Ralph
Summary: Wreck-It Ralph ongs to be as beloved as his game’s perfect Good Guy, Fix-It Felix. Problem is, nobody loves a Bad Guy. But they do love heroes… so when a modern, first-person shooter game arrives featuring tough-as-nails Sergeant Calhoun, Ralph sees it as his ticket to heroism and happiness. He sneaks into the game with a simple plan — win a medal — but soon wrecks everything, and accidentally unleashes a deadly enemy that threatens every game in the arcade. Ralph’s only hope? Vanellope von Schweetz, a young troublemaking “glitch” from a candy-coated cart racing game who might just be the one to teach Ralph what it means to be a Good Guy. But will he realize he is good enough to become a hero before it’s “Game Over” for the entire arcade?
I definitely was one of those kids that used to think things like Toy Story happened when you weren’t around in your room to see it. Likewise, I was also one of those kids that used to wonder if video game characters had feelings. Haha, I know, I had one overactive imagination. This one looks like it might be fun.
Releasing November 21st:
Title: Rise of the Guardians
Summary: Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, Jack Frost and the Sandman band together to form a united front against the Bogeyman.
As vague as the plot summary sounds, this is actually the animation I am most looking forward too this year, and I can’t wait until it gets released! Hopefully it’s as good as the trailer looks.
2013 Releases
Releasing June 21st:
Title: Monsters University
Summary: A look at the relationship between Mike and Sulley during their days at the University of Fear — when they weren’t necessarily the best of friends.
I think I’m going to have to rewatch Monsters, Inc. (2001). I actually don’t remember if I liked or disliked this movie. Then again, it came out when I was just starting middle school, so that could very well be why; it’s been a while. Monsters University looks like it’s going to be a hilarious “prequel” though, so I think I’m going to rewatch Monsters Inc. just as a refresher.
Releasing July 3rd:
Title: Despicable Me 2
Summary: N/A – Was there even really a solid plot for the first one? Hahaha. All I remember is just a bunch of adorable.
I love almost everything Steve Carrell does, and I think his voice acting is hilarious in Despicable Me (2010). I also think that the minions were the best part of the movie, and I look forward to seeing more of them!
Other 2013 releases I’m at least kind of excited for include: Iron Man 3 (May 3rd), Star Trek 2 (May 17th), Fast & Furious 6 (May 24th), The Wolverine (July 26th), Ender’s Game (November 1st), Thor 2 (November 15th), and The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (November 23rd).
